Unique Easter Food

One of the must-try things in Finland is Mämmi. It is a traditional Finnish dish that is mainly eaten in Easter. When I first heard about it, they told me it is a hit or miss. From what I have witnessed, Mämmi is quite a divisive topic, so if you ever need small talk in Finland ask them

‘Do you like Mämmi?’

Answers range from “greatest food ever made” to “disgusting and looks like poop”. I had to see for myself.

Easter finally rolled by and I tried it. Conclusion?

The poop bit is real:

It took a minute to get used to the sight of it. It is often eaten cold. People add cream and sugar to it to make it taste less like molten rye bread and more like- well to be honest I do not know how to describe the taste. It felt quite unnatural (even though it is 100% healthy) so I chugged it down my mouth.

As to why it exists: in rural Finland, when there wasn't much money around for the natives in the countryside, they came up with this cheap but healthy option for food.

Now you know about Finnish Easter. I hope you get to try it. If you have, do tell how you like it in a comment down below!
