Running with confidence
Haha the coolest things that happened today was this:
My school organized a trip to a university fair held at The Oberoi International School. Quite an impressive number of universities attended to guide and help students figure out what they wanted. There were around 120 universities- mainly from the United States, United Kingdom and India. Each institute had a representative on a desk. Students were going around from table to table, speaking to them and clearing their doubts.
Now all their expertise is fine and cool- but it was boring for me.
Me, I don’t know much about universities. Most of these were exorbitantly priced and I do not believe in paying millions of rupees for education. Yet I am stuck here for another three hours. I believe that real life teaches you more sometime- here’s a chance to test something out:
There is an empty desk.
I have a couple of brochures and a willing accomplice.
I set up my own desk.
Part of me thought that I would be kicked out, but ,incredibly, I wasn’t . In fact, we had a couple of students over at our “college” where I explained the idea behind the Sustain India Student Community (an initiative of a friend) and invited them to join. Perhaps at some point they realized that I was an impostor and awkwardly left. But hah, it was fun.
Sometimes confidence gets you far. It doesn’t matter what you say, provided you say it in a certain way. Act professional. In my case, being nice to my guests was enough. I greeted them warmly and they responded well. It made me wonder how real are the things we perceive, and how little technical knowledge is required when it comes to persuading people.
Quite a fun story.
